Jenny Peterson for Mahtomedi School Board

Why I’m Running
Our Kids Deserve More
As a 1994 Mahtomedi graduate, our small town prided itself on the most excellent schools and generational alumni retention. I’m watching my three small children go through Mahtomedi Public Schools with that legacy vanishing at an alarming rate.
I aim to use my alumni background, and my experience – as a teacher for over 20 years, and a parent of elementary aged children – to help return ISD 832 to the close-knit community school it once was.
MY PRIORITIES
- Transparency from the top down in the district
- Promote a school environment that reflects the district’s values and understands the community’s priorities
- Support educational excellence in academics, fine arts, and other hands-on learning opportunities (e.g. home ec, woodshop, robotics)
- Empower students to own their pathway through curriculum – enrichment and personal learning plans
- More outdoor learning on our beautiful, spacious campuses
- Limit non-essential individual screen time in elementary school
- Recess and gym are not rewards or punishments
- Parental needs are listened to and input in their child’s learning is valued
- Schools should be politically neutral; a place where students can freely express differing viewpoints and opinions, foster critical thinking and healthy debate
- Retain Mahtomedi families in K-12, especially alumni families, and make Mahtomedi Public Schools the best available option.
A Bit About Me
I was born and raised in Grant, MN and attended Wildwood, O.H. Anderson, Mahtomedi Middle School, and graduated from Mahtomedi High School in ’94. After high school I graduated from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln in ’98 with a degree in Child Development.
While in graduate school in Lincoln, a once-in-a-lifetime job opened at The Children’s Farm School in Stillwater, MN. I took it immediately in 2000 and haven’t looked back!
My husband, Chris, and I met in 2002 and married in 2011. We have three boys: Fletcher, 10, Monte, 8, and Hugh, 6. For 6 years we have been residing in the best neighborhood in town!
When we are not at football, basketball, hockey, baseball practice, or golf, we love to camp and downhill ski. Our families are close so we see grandparents, aunt, uncles, and cousins all the time. Chris is a PGA golf professional at PXG in Minneapolis and enjoys playing in MN PGA Section events against his peers.

Support for Jenny!
Here’s what I can tell you about Jenny Peterson. As a neighbor and friend, she’s great and I couldn’t ask for a better family to live just around the corner. She’s there if we need someone to watch our kids in a pinch (or for a weekend), she treats my kids as if they were her own and always welcoming to my wife and I for a BBQ or just to hang out. Thanks for being you Jenny!
Jenny is a champion for education. We have seen this in the dedicated presence she has had in our sons’ early childhood education in preparing them for elementary school and beyond. We are fortunate to have Jenny as a teacher and a member of our community. She is a perfect fit for our school board.
Jenny organized a Mahtomedi kids triathlon the summer of 2020 when everything was shut down. She brought the kids (and parents and neighbors and friends) together for some fun competition. It’s become pretty popular, and our boys have done every year since! She also helped lead Adventure Camp at St. Andrew’s. We so appreciate the time and effort she puts into engaging with our community’s kids.
